A journey of exploration

Why not join thousands of churches in the UK and beyond who are discovering a simple yet powerful way of encouraging and deepening Christian discipleship - starting a Pilgrim Course?

Pilgrim is ideal for all groups, from explorers on the fringes of church life, to mature Christians who want to explore key Christian texts at a deeper level. The resources allow opportunity for deep and honest discussion, allowing everyone to share whatever their level of experience and knowledge.

“The group members were all immigrants/asylum seekers, some with limited English - but they were able to join in/contribute. They all want to do another book now and eventually complete the course!”

Many groups in the Follow stage are led by a trained or experienced leader. But the material in the Grow stage has been written so that the group can be self-led.

“For the first group, we are now defunct as leaders. In just a few short weeks they have learned spiritual practices that will enable them to continue as missional life-long disciples of Jesus.”

Pilgrim is not simply designed to encourage a one-time commitment, but to facilitate lifelong learning and discipleship. Pilgrim is an ideal resource for parishes who want a rolling programme that will suit a lot of different people, and encourage discipleship groups to become an integral part of parish life.

A flexible resource

Pilgrim can be used to build community across parish boundaries, and in different contexts.

You can use whatever material is most suitable for your group and in whatever order you choose, using whichever text your group is most comfortable with and will most benefit from.

The books in the Follow stage are particularly useful for groups of beginners and explorers. The Grow books are written for groups of Christians who are serious about their discipleship.

“If you’re not sure about Pilgrim, you should just do it – just jump in – and you’ll not regret it, not for one second.”

A simple pattern of study and prayer

Each session includes a theme, opening prayers, and a ‘conversation-starter’. The heart of the session is an opportunity to reflect on a reading from the Bible, plus a short article from a contemporary Christian writer on the theme.

In Pilgrim we follow lectio divina, the pattern for reading Scripture several times in different ways, reflecting on significant words or phrases in couples or small groups, and discussing its importance to our own spiritual journey.

“The group Lectio Divina method triggered the most amazing and deep conversations.  Doing this as a men's group was truly positive, enabling guys to open up in ways which would have been most unlikely in a mixed group.”
